iconeInfo Event valued at 7 points in the continuing education of lawyers who are members of the French- and German-speaking bars of Belgium (Avocats.be).

The year 2023 will mark the sixtieth anniversary of the Institute for European Legal Studies (IEJE) of the Faculty of Law, Political Science and Criminology of the University of Liège (Belgium) and, more generally, of the scientific study of European law within our University.

This institute, now called EU Legal Studies, was the source of important work in European Union law. Many eminent lawyers have taught at the institute or come from it, such as Pierre Pescatore, René Joliet and Melchior Wathelet. The seriousness of the research carried out there has recently been rewarded by the award of an ERC grant (EUDAIMONIA).

The sixtieth anniversary of the Institute is an opportunity to honour European Union law and the people who have made and continue to make the Institute so rich. On this occasion, Pieter Van Cleynenbreugel, professor of (substantive) European Union law and director of the EU Legal Studies Institute, and Jonathan Wildemeersch, lecturer in European litigation at the Faculty of Law, Political Science and Criminology of the University of Liège, are organising a two-day scientific event. Thursday 11 May 2023 will be devoted to a workshop for researchers, while Friday 12 May 2023 will be a colloquium open to a wider audience of legal practitioners.

This colloquium will focus on the three main research themes of the Institute: institutional and procedural law, competition law, internal market and digital market law, including intellectual property. Mr Melchior Wathelet, Mr Nicolas Petit, and Mr Paul Demaret have agreed to chair these sessions. Mr Koen Lenaerts, President of the Court of Justice of the European Union, will give the closing speech.

The conference proccedings, delivered the same day, will be published by Larcier. Contributions and oral presentations will be made in French or English. No translation services will be provided during the conference.
