Yesterday, the Centre of Excellence welcomed Prof. Andrea Bertolini (Sant'Anna, Scuola Universitaria Superiore Pisa) as its third guest lecturer!

Excluding from the outset the thesis that AI systems are moral agents and the dogma that attributing their legal personality is a bad idea in itself, he has chosen to talk to us about civil liability and product liability. His motto? A functional—not ontological—analysis should enable legislators to propose a more relevant AI liability scheme. In this respect, he placed a great deal of emphasis on the recent publication of the revised product liability directive and explained why, in his view, the proposed AI liability directive will bring more problems than solutions.

We are proud to have benefited from his expertise in this field and thank him for the time he devoted to our students.
